I knew something needed to shift. I moved away to live with my father in New Mexico so I could get off drugs.

Once I came out of the fog of addiction, and felt stable enough to move back out on my own, I decided to go back to community college in Arizona. Here is a snapshot of my actual report card:

Yes, I got a “C” in “Principles of Marketing” and an “F” in “Owning and Operating a Small Business.” Not quite the fast-track for a bright future.

Despite what the report card said, in the early ‘90s I decided to start a carpet cleaning business.

I was dead broke and living off credit cards when a high school friend asked me if I wanted to go jet skiing.

I originally said no because I was up to my neck in debt. I had been in the carpet cleaning business for two years, had gone through the proper training, bought all the right equipment, and treated people fairly and honestly.
